The ReFrame Film Festival – A Mid-Winter Weekend of Film and Art
What if “male” and “female” are not the only options? How do other genders express themselves through art?
A small group of Burmese video-makers work around the clock – in the midst of marching monks, scary police agents, and ready-to-shoot soldiers – to make sure the outside world finds out about what is going on in their tightly controlled country.
Wild New Zealand falcons and commercial logging – watch birds fight back to survive in their natural habitat.
WELCOME to the wonder-filled world of ReFrame -- the Peterborough International Film Festival. The little festival that keeps on growing celebrates the latest cinematic works on social justice from our community, Canada, and around the world. Once again, for three film-packed days in downtown Peterborough from Friday January 29 to Sunday the 31, 2010, ReFrame turns its intensive, magical gaze on events and issues and triumphs and trials here, there, and everywhere.
Now in its sixth year, this successful, locally organized community festival has become an annual mid-winter extravaganza – three days of outstanding films that celebrate life and human dignity.
And a pass for all of this costs only $30 for adults and $15 for students.
On top of experiencing the amazing art and power of film, the festival also includes art exhibits, late-night performances, and international food and craft vendors. Come and meet the filmmakers at screenings and panels.
Need a break from watching film? Take a walk throughout the downtown and visit the “Still ReFrame” Art Shows at six locations. Or, on Saturday evening, catch an appearance by the eclectic Janette Platana, who will be performing before the Saturday evening program at Showplace. But there is also more that evening: later on festival goers can take in singer/songwriter Sarah DeCarlo , dub poet Chet Singh, and musician Jarrett Prescott at the Kubo Lounge.
