Parent-Child Book Club
For Children ages 9-12 and parents of all ages. It's fun to read - but even more fun when you can share the stories! Parents and children are invited to join us one Saturday each month to discuss a book together.
September's meeting will be a round-table book talk--tell us about a recent favourite read, and perhaps we'll select it for one of future discussions. The librarian will briefly present our fall book selections, including:

Hutchison House is presenting its annual fall sale of indoor and outdoor plants. At the same time Peterborough Historical Society is having a giant book sale. (Call 740-2600 for pick up of your books for sale). Scissor and knife sharpening will also be offered.
Hungarian Folk Dancing

You can enjoy Hungarian traditional folk music while learning basic Hungarian folk dance steps. Beginners, kids, grandmas - Hungarian or not - are welcome to join the circle and celebrate multiculturalism together. You can also watch a video of a professional

NCC Social Event and Fundraiser for Pakistan
By donation to Canadian Red Cross Society's Pakistan Relief Effort
As many as 20 million people have been affected by the floods in the regions of North-West Frontier Province, Punjab and Sindh. An estimated 4 million people alone are homeless and the rainy season will continue into September. To raise funds for the relief efforts, the NCC will be organizing a social event and fundraiser.

Peterborough Parent-Child Mother Goose

The popular Parent-Child Mother Goose program is back! The program has been offered since 2007 in partnership with the New Canadians Centre and the Peterborough Public Library. The program has brought newcomer and other families together to share as a group the pleasure and power of using rhymes, songs and storytelling. The goal of the program is to use simple bouncing rhymes, songs and stories to help parents and children grow closer together. It is a fun way to connect, communicate, cuddle and build a stronger community by using playful, language-based activities.
Canadian Citizenship Course

Learn more about Canada and Canadian culture! This course is geared towards people studying for Canadian citizenship based on the new guide, but is also open to those interested in learning more about their new country and culture. Students should be of intermediate or advanced level English.
